122nd Mission Support Group

In the real world…

There are many agencies that contribute to success of a mission, such as Air Traffic Control, AWACS, ASOCs, JTACs/TACPs, and many others. At the core of our simulation experience is the 122nd MSG. Members of the 122nd MSG help plan our missions, staff them as ATC controllers, play as JTACs on the ground, staff ASOCs, and complete other tasks. Many of our pilots are also members of the Mission Support Group, but we do offer positions only in the MSG for those interested.

LotAtc

Every member of the 122nd MSG is granted access to LotAtc, as this is the primary program they will use when acting as an Air Traffic Controller, ASOC staffer, range controller, and other various key roles for our squadron.

Combined Arms

Take control of a ground vehicle and direct the DCS community’s best attack pilots to blow up whatever you want with extreme prejudice. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? If you don’t own Combined Arms, don’t worry - if you demonstrate great interest and commitment, we will purchase it for you and give you the training you need to use it. (Yes, seriously!)

Create and Plan Missions

Flying realistic sorties means using intelligence from the real world and applying it to our virtual campaigns and missions. How do we gather this intelligence? We could tell you, but then we’d have to kill you….

The name of the game at the 163rd vFS is flying realistic combat sorties. All of our training sorties, document studies, and CAF standard jeopardy nights serve to build the knowledge, proficiency, and experience needed to accomplish this goal.

For a specified period of time, the 163rd vFS will conduct a dynamic campaign in a DCS: World terrain of our choosing, often in Syria or the Caucasus. This campaign is managed by members of the 122nd Mission Support Group and is the product of many countless man-hours of staff and development work. Mission builders serve as the foundation for the campaign, populating missions, assessing war plans, building FOBs, scripting logistics networks running between Combat Support Service centers and the FLOTs, and completing many other tasks to enrich the simulation experience, while also staffing agencies like ASOCs, TOCs, ATC, and others to coordinate with pilots. When Mission Support Group members create campaigns and missions, they also generate briefing material like you see here to support our operations. The effects of each sortie within the campaign builds on another, all the way down to painstaking details like the placement of dead static vehicles i locations where they were destroyed in previous missions.

We are thankful to have many subject matter experts among our ranks, who are incredibly knowledgeable in regards to real world tactics, techniques, and procedures, and devote many hours of their free time to our shared hobby to make the experience the best it can possibly be for all of us.
